17 Oct Unrush Your Rhythm by Amy Royael
Ever felt like you’ve set your life to the rhythm of rush?
Sometimes it takes stepping out of the rush to see clearly. Recently I went on an out of town trip with some girlfriends. You know the kind of trip that was put off and rescheduled a few times. I was really looking forward to this trip but as the time approached I began to grow anxious. I wished I’d scheduled it for another time, a time when life didn’t feel so busy. I began to realize that exhaustion was raising its ugly head, demanding me to slow down.
During that trip, busy took a break from chasing me. I was forced to “unrush” and I discovered I like who I am so much better when I’m not set to the wrong rhythm.
When we look at Jesus, He never seemed rushed. He set His life to the rhythm of connection and compassion. With focused intentionality, Jesus stayed unrushed. Like Jesus, I must intentionally unrush my pace for connection and compassion to take place.
Do you feel under pressure or stressed? Jesus knew this well. People pulled at Him everywhere He went. Crowds demanded sermons. Individuals needed healing. The disciples required leadership. What about saving the entire world?
Yet, Jesus did not rush. He talked with the woman at the well. He reached out His hand and healed the leper. He felt the touch of the woman with the issue of blood and stopped for her. Connection and compassion were essential to his every interaction.
Let this truth from Jesus’ life encourage you. Let’s be intentional to unrush our pace so that connection and compassion take place.
Matthew 11:28-30The Message (MSG) “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
