17 Sep The Good Fight by Danielle Koke
1 Timothy 6:12 “Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”
What does it mean to fight the good fight? Didn’t we all grow up learning not to fight or to turn the other cheek? Especially us women! We’re not supposed to be rough housing or playing in the dirt… “You’re a lady, sit still and look pretty.” Well let’s stop that crap right there. Yes, we’re beautiful, but we’re also strong, and just as capable of fighting life’s battle as any hairy-legged boy. Because… in this battle, winning isn’t based on the strongest man or the prettiest girl; it’s based on love.
There is a remedy, a solution, that no matter what -100% guarantees victory every single time. I think we know His name pretty well. But just in case we don’t, let’s say it a few times: JESUS, JESUS, JESUS, JESUS!!!!! Jesus loves us! Now we are armed for battle. We are ready to face life head on.
“But wait… it’s still not easy.” Of course it’s not easy! This isn’t Heaven we’re talking about. As long as we live on this earth, we’ll face hard times. This is what we chose. We chose to exercise free will, and with it comes constant adversity.
Every day is a new opportunity to fight the good fight or to sit still and look pretty.
In the life of a woman, there is a tremendous amount of pressure to look or act a certain way. The world tries to convince you to be anyone but yourself. However, you have a choice. You can fight the good fight and listen to what God says about you; you’re fearfully and wonderfully made, a woman to be valued and respected; or you can listen to the devil, who says he won’t love you unless you give it up. One road leads to confidence and self-respect; the other leads to insecurities and regret. There goes that dang freewill again.
Life will never stop handing you things that you can’t understand, but that’s the thing… you were never meant to understand everything. All we really need to understand is that we are here to love God and love people. Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” I will never understand why my brother Caleb had to go to Heaven a lot sooner than the rest of us, but I’m at peace. I’m at peace because in everything, God is working! When my brother passed, hundreds of people came to know the Lord, and in his honor, multiple orphanages were built to care for mistreated children all over the world. So, yes bad things happen; but guess what… I have eternity with that boy and right now, I’m still here.
So for me, well I’m gonna fight. What about you?
