Taking the Crazy Out of Life by Jeanette Harrell

Taking the Crazy Out of Life by Jeanette Harrell

One of my favorite things I own, is a piece of paper I found wedged between sheets of music, in an old piano bench that was given to me by my mother in-law. On one side of the paper is a list of praise and worship songs she had used to lead worship. On the other side, in the very same hand writing a recipe for cheesecake.

When I first discovered this paper, I laughed out loud. It so describes our lives as women. Always being pulled in so many directions and trying to make it happen all at the same time. Life can be so intimidating!

Frankly, I can handle the piece of paper with the song list on one side and the cheesecake recipe on the other. It’s when things are added to that sheet like “fifty” other things . . . there you add written arrows going in different directions. That’s when it all becomes crazy!

When life happens and things become extremely crazy it’s time for me to recalibrate. I find the best way for me to get back into a rhythm with God is to turn all my affections towards Him. My most effective way is to do this at night, right as I drift off to sleep, turning all my focus and affections towards Him.

6-7 “I lie awake each night thinking of You.

And reflecting on how You help me like a Father.

I sing through the night under Your splendor-shadow.

Offering up to You my songs of delight and joy!

With passion I pursue and cling to You,

I keep my soul close to Your heart,

For I feel Your grip on my life and I will never let You go.”

Psalms 63:6-8 TPT

6 “Your pleasant path leads me to pleasant places.

I’m overwhelmed by the privileges

That come with following You,

For You have given me the best!

The way You counsel and correct me

Makes me praise You more;

For Your whispers in the night give me wisdom,

Showing me what to do next.

Because You are close to me and always available,

My confidence will never be shaken,

For I experience Your wrap around presence ever moment.

My heart and soul explode with joy – full of glory!

Even my body will rest confident and secure.”

Psalms 16:6-9 TPT

I just love the way the Holy Spirit whispers when given the chance. And I am so learning a new in the midst of the crazy the importance of coming at rest and listening to His voice as He shows me what to do next. It helps take the “crazy” out of life.
