09 Oct God’s Extraordinary Plans by Rev. Renita Knight
Ps. 37:27, “The steps of a good man are ordered of the Lord.”
Every day, I pray for God’s will in my life- that He will order my steps and help me to hear His voice when He speaks to me. I pray that way because Isaiah 55:9 says, “…My ways are higher than your ways, My thoughts than your thoughts.” I prefer His plans over mine any day! I love it when God intervenes and makes an ordinary day extraordinary!
I am an ordained minister, but I have frequently had secular jobs (that wouldn’t interfere with the ministry). Presently, I am a substitute at a secular high school. One day at the school, a teacher suddenly became so ill she had to go home during the last period of the day. I entered her reading class to discover the students’ were to read and analyze poems by William Blake, a Christian author from the 1700’s.
As we read the poem “The Lamb,” I asked the students why the word “lamb” would be capitalized in the middle of a stanza. That opened an amazing discussion about the Lamb of God, and we felt His Presence enter the room. One of the students felt compelled to ask some sincere questions about God. So, after getting the class started on their written work, I continued the discussion with some of the students who had questions. As we spoke, one of the students said he could feel a warmth in his heart. At the end of class, a girl who hadn’t even been a part of the discussions brought me a little note that said, ”I didn’t believe in God until I heard your perspective. Now I believe!” She asked Jesus to come into her heart on the day that God made extraordinary! God’s plans usually benefit more than one person. As soon as the teacher got home, she felt great!
