29 Jul Glamorous by Gina Cameneti
I love my life. I really do! But once in a while, just for a second, I’ll see somebody else doing something that just seems more glamorous. One day I was in just that type of mood. I was exhausted and was being stretched way beyond my comfort zone. I started grumbling about how ‘glamorous’ everyone else’s life seemed to be! Of course that’s ridiculous. Nobody gets a free pass from mundane or difficult seasons, but at the moment, it felt like a fact!
Happily, I managed to bring that silly thinking to God and talk honestly to Him about how I felt. It wasn’t my finest moment. I really ranted and raved to God about how everybody had it better than meJ After I blew off some steam, 2 Sam. 12 was brought to my attention.
2 Samuel 12 The Lord sent Nathan to David. When he came to him, he said, “There were two men in a certain town, one rich and the other poor. 2 The rich man had a very large number of sheep and cattle, 3 but the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb he had bought. He raised it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food, drank from his cup and even slept in his arms. It was like a daughter to him.
King David was in a pretty glamorous season of his life. He was the reigning King and had overcome so many obstacles in order to get to that place. But instead of cherishing what he already had, and taking good care of it, he started thinking about what he didn’t have. He made a very poor choice and took another man’s wife for himself.
Nathan the prophet scolded him because David had been given so much, but didn’t appreciate it fully. At the same time, he contrasted David’s behavior with Uriah the Hittite’s. Uriah had very little but cherished his assignment like one would cherish a little ‘ewe lamb.’ Uriah’s attitude and behavior was commendable in God’s sight, and David paid a pretty big price for getting off-track.
I think most of us have days when we feel like what we are doing is somehow less significant than what we see others doing. It’s at those moments that we can realize that in God’s eyes, if we cherish our assignment as “a little ewe lamb,” He is pleased with our attitude, and great joy will come to us.
Whatever your assignment is for this day, my prayer is that you will give it all you’ve got, and wholeheartedly cherish it. I believe you will be encouraged and strengthened as you do!
