13 May Give ’em a High Five by Sandy Scheer
I bit the bullet and got on Facebook this year. My son bet me years ago that I would eventually get on the “middle-age bandwagon.” I argued that it was a college thing because at the time… it was! We bet $10,000 that I wouldn’t and he bet that I would. I held out for years, until finally, a high school friend told me that it was so much fun catching up with people we went to school with. I have to admit that I LOVE it… for the most part! It’s a great way to see friends’ families 36 years after high school graduation.
Facebook is like most things. It’s how you view it. It can be fun and social or it can be a target for unsolicited opinions, jealousy and offense. It really brings out the best and the worst part of people. I think some mistake it for a diary and share crazy personal things or a way to say “Look at how amazing my life is!” We all know this but I think it’s a great tool to share the love!
I’ve heard that when you “like” someone’s post, it’s like giving them a high-five or a hug. My kids tell me I go overboard with the “like” button. It’s almost painful for me to not click that like button. I do like it all, for the most part. I want to encourage everyone that is on Facebook to share the love with people.
Life is crazy enough with all the bad reports and impatient people on the road and at the malls. People are lonely, lost and just need that encouragement! It’s a small way to share love. You never know what people are going through, even though their Facebook may say different.
“Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” Romans 5:5 (New King James Version)
Let’s give a little love to someone today. It just may Help Them Win!
Heading to work to make my $10,000 😉
