Church Highlight: The Gathering – Albemarle, NC

The Gathering Church in Albemarle, North Carolina, began in June 2011 when 20 individuals convened in a living room with a shared vision: to draw near to God and be sent to those far from Him. They aspired to transform their county by living authentically, serving wholeheartedly, giving sacrificially, and loving courageously. Since that initial gathering, The Gathering has witnessed profound transformations, including salvations, healings, and restorations, all attributed to God’s work through their community.

At the heart of The Gathering’s mission is the commitment to “become disciplers by being drawn, deepened, and developed.” This process is encapsulated in their approach: “Near God. Near man. Empowered to serve.” The church emphasizes a journey where individuals grow closer to God, build authentic relationships with others, and are equipped to serve their communities effectively.

Leading this mission are Lead Pastor’s,  Paul Jenkins and his wife, Wendy. With over two decades of experience in youth and worship ministries, Pastor Paul spent five years traveling and speaking before founding The Gathering. His passion lies in fostering close relationships with God and others, aiming to bring people near to God through Christ and send them to reach those distant from Him. Together, Paul and Wendy are dedicated to cultivating a community that embodies these values.

The Gathering’s core values revolve around the centrality of Jesus. They prioritize biblical truth, authentic relationships, unbreakable unity, and passionate worship. By focusing on these principles, the church strives to create an environment where individuals can experience transformation and be empowered to impact their world for Christ
