18 Oct Church Highlight: Resurrection Life Ministries – Picayune, Mississippi
Resurrection Life Ministries, located in Picayune, Mississippi, is a vibrant, inter-denominational church with a heart for loving God, loving people, and helping individuals experience the abundant life found in Jesus. The church describes itself as a “whole ministry for the whole family,” offering opportunities designed to minister to people spiritually and practically. At the heart of Resurrection Life is a desire not only to receive life from God, but also to give that life away by serving others.
The story of Resurrection Life began with a heart for people who had been hurt and discouraged. In 1989, Pastors James and Tish Hickman founded the church after a small group of eleven people began gathering in their living room for prayer, worship, and Bible study. Pastor James, affectionately known as “Papa,” had a deep love for the people of Picayune and the surrounding community.
As the congregation grew, Resurrection Life continued expanding its ministry and finding new ways to serve Pearl River County. In 2000, Pastor James transitioned leadership of the church to his youngest son, Pastor Allen Hickman, who had been part of Resurrection Life from its beginning. Pastor Allen continues to serve as Senior Pastor today. Under his leadership, Resurrection Life has grown into a multi-campus ministry serving both Picayune and Poplarville. The church’s official history reports that more than 1,500 people gather through its weekly services across the two campuses.
Serving the community has also been an important part of Resurrection Life’s story. Following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the church partnered with churches and organizations across the country to provide aid and hope to people affected by the storm. Resurrection Life’s history also includes the development of Manna Ministries, which has provided practical assistance to the community, including a free medical clinic. Today, Manna Ministries continues offering services that include medical and dental care, family advocacy, and educational support for children.
Resurrection Life continues investing in people of all generations through children’s ministry, youth ministry, LifeGroups, worship, missions, and numerous opportunities to serve. The church’s Poplarville Campus began in 2021, with approximately 60 people meeting at Pearl River Community College before moving into a renovated facility in 2022. Across both campuses, Resurrection Life remains focused on people and on creating opportunities for individuals to connect, grow, serve, and experience the love of Jesus.
From eleven people gathering in a living room to a ministry reaching people throughout Pearl River County, Resurrection Life Ministries continues building upon the legacy established by Pastors James and Tish Hickman. Through the leadership of Pastor Allen Hickman and the Resurrection Life team, the church remains committed to loving God, loving people, serving its community, and giving life to others.
Please join us this week as we celebrate and lift up our friends at Resurrection Life Ministries in prayer! We are excited about all God is doing and will continue to do in and through Pastor Allen Hickman and the Resurrection Life family!
