Church Highlight: Cornerstone Church – Garden City, Kansas

Cornerstone Church, located in Garden City, Kansas, is a multi-generational, multi-cultural, non-denominational church with a passion for helping people encounter Jesus and grow as disciples. The church summarizes its ministry through three clear commitments: pray boldly, worship fully, and make disciples. These priorities support Cornerstone’s overarching mission of “Making Heaven Crowded” and reflect a desire to see more people experience life and freedom through Jesus Christ.

Cornerstone’s ministry has grown beyond Garden City to include additional campuses in Plains and Dodge City, Kansas, extending the church’s reach throughout southwest Kansas. The Garden City campus currently gathers for two Sunday services, while the Plains and Dodge City campuses provide additional opportunities for people in their communities to worship and connect. Although each campus serves its local community, they share Cornerstone’s larger mission of reaching people and making disciples.

Cornerstone Church is led by Pastor Erik Staebel, who serves as Lead Pastor, alongside a ministry team committed to discipleship, families, worship, and the next generation. The church places a strong emphasis on helping people move beyond simply attending services and intentionally grow in their relationship with Christ. Opportunities such as Next Steps, discipleship classes, baptism, and serving provide clear pathways for people to become connected and continue developing spiritually. Investing in the next generation is also an important part of Cornerstone’s ministry. Through Cornerstone Kids and Cornerstone Youth, the church provides environments designed specifically for children and students to encounter God, understand His Word, and build a foundation of faith. Cornerstone Youth serves students in grades 6–12, while the children’s ministry provides age-appropriate opportunities for younger generations to experience God’s love and truth. Prayer remains a defining part of the culture at Cornerstone. In addition to its regular worship gatherings, the church provides recurring opportunities for prayer and spiritual growth throughout the week. Cornerstone also offers ministries designed to help people experience restoration and freedom, demonstrating a desire to minister not only to people’s spiritual growth but also to the challenges they encounter throughout life. One visible expression of Cornerstone’s mission is its celebration of baptism. The church currently reports 765 baptisms, representing hundreds of individuals who have publicly taken a step of faith. Through its campuses, discipleship ministries, next-generation investment, prayer, worship, and outreach, Cornerstone continues working toward its vision of reaching people throughout southwest Kansas with the Gospel.
