Central Church, located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota exists to help people share the love of Jesus with their relational world.Their roots date back to 1883 when a group of believers met under the name Swedish Baptist Church. They took on the name Central Baptist Church in the 1920’s and the legacy of their congregation includes a radio ministry which operated for more than sixty years, a number of church plants, and a now-complete campus located on Ralph Rogers Road, which includes a 1200-seat worship center, a family life center with full-sized gymnasium, and a preschool / kindergarten that serves more than 300 students each week. They recently shortened our name to Central Church in 2015 as an adjustment to how we identify ourselves to our community.

Central has always had a vision to reach more people for Christ. When the church building became too small, they added more space. They are at that point again. As throughout their rich history, they believe as they pursue Christ’s mission above their own, they will see God’s faithfulness and provision.

They are at the point in their exploration of what a building expansion could look like at Central Church. They’ve spent the last year praying, discerning, and working with construction and architectural partners to better understand what both a master plan and a phase 1 plan could look like.

Lead Pastor, Jeff Wheeler has been serving the local church for over 30 years. His passion is communicating God’s truth with Biblical accuracy and cultural relevance. Central Church has a congregation of about 3,000 weekend and online worshippers on two campuses. Jeff is a native of California and a graduate of Azusa Pacific University and Fuller Seminary. He is married to his wife Shirlene of 36 years. They have three adult children and four grandchildren.
