21 Oct Church Highlight: Transformation Church – Indian Land, SC
Transformation Church, in Indian Land, South Carolina has a vision to be a multiethnic, multigenerational mission-shaped community that loves God completely (Upward), ourselves correctly (Inward), and our neighbors compassionately (Outward). The vision of Transformation Church is birthed out of the very heart of Jesus. They are committed, through the Spirit’s enabling power, to teach a high and lofty view of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. All of their actions, teaching, prayer, mission, and spiritual transformation will be driven by their view of God.
Led by Pastor Derwin L. Gray, Transformation Church (TC) began with a group of 178 people who believed in God’s vision to be a multiethnic, multigenerational, mission-shaped community. God provided and transformed a warehouse with green Astroturf, batting cages, and no parking lot, into a worship space. Prior to their first Sunday, on February 7, 2010, Pastor Derwin prayed for 700 people to come. 701 showed up. Since then, TC has welcomed thousands of people from diverse backgrounds to form one family.
In 2014 construction of the new TC 521 facility was finalized on 12.1 acres of land along Highway 521 in Indian Land, South Carolina. TC held its first services in this new 32,000 sq. ft. facility on November 30.
Derwin and Vicki met at Brigham Young University where he played football and she threw the javelin on the track team. After graduating from BYU, Pastor Derwin played professional football in the NFL—five years with the Indianapolis Colts (1993–1997) and one year with the Carolina Panthers (1998). During that time, he and Vicki began their journey with Christ and experienced God’s faithfulness and direction as He moved their hearts to know Him and make Him known. Pastor Derwin went on to graduate magna cum laude from Southern Evangelical Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree with a concentration in Apologetics. In 2018, he received his Doctor of Ministry in the New Testament in Context at Northern Seminary.
Vicki has a degree in Clinical Dietetics and International Relations and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Ministry Leadership from Wheaton College Graduate School. She has a passion for spiritual formation and leading out of a relationship with Jesus. Vicki oversees the culture and spiritual formation of the TC staff.
