Church Highlight: Carmel Church – Needville, TX

Carmel Church, in Needville, Texas is a Bible-based and Spirit-led Church. Their focus is to help equip people for life using the principles and patterns contained in the Bible and to equip people for abundant life with Jesus Christ.

Carmel Ministries International (UK) was started in 1996. It all began in Redcatch Community Centre, with the congregation consisting of its founders, Pastor Gerri Di Somma, his wife Pastor Michelle, their four children, and one other couple. In faith and obedience to God, a Bible College was also opened a year later, and a Christian School was soon to follow.

The Congregation and students increased, and Carmel moved under one roof in a rented warehouse on a trading estate in South Bristol. ‘Unit D’ soon housed a church, school, Bible College, youth groups, and many other activities reaching out to the community, both locally and internationally.

Seven years later Carmel had outgrown these premises and moved to a building previously owned by a computer firm. The building was originally only for sale, but later changed to lease with option to purchase. Through God’s grace, Carmel took ownership in 2006.

Activities continued to expand to meet the needs of the congregation and the community. In 2006 there were sixty-one departments, including a new pre-school class, a coffee bar run by the youth, and a book shop.

Just when Pastors Gerri and Michelle started getting comfortable, God took them across the water to America in 2015 to start Carmel Global Ministries Inc. (USA). They birthed Carmel Church in 2016. Pastors Gerri and Michelle have more than thirty-five years of the most amazing journey of faith that is almost unbelievable at times. Living in three continents and working in ministries on all three, they have seen many thousands come to salvation and healing through their ministry and have seen many released into ministry through Bible College.

Pastor Gerri had been a successful businessman who, with Michelle, became a member of Rhema Bible Church, one of the fastest-growing churches in South Africa. In 1985 they attended Rhema Bible Training Centre graduating two years later. Pastor Gerri became a lecturer and pastor at the Centre, then Director of Faculty, a post which he held for five years, with responsibility for about 650 students. His pastoral responsibilities included work among the 18,000 strong Rhema Bible Church and Directorship of Christian Men’s Network for South Africa.

Pastors Gerri and Michelle have seen God’s love, Word, and power demonstrated throughout their lives and the lives of countless others. This is the reason they continue in their call “to preach the kingdom of God and heal the sick,” Luke 9:2 – the mission statement of Carmel. The work they lead is now reaching out into other parts of the world, and they are called on internationally to share their ministry insights and wisdom through the Word of God.
