30 Oct Who’s Loud in the Crowd? by Gina Cameneti
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
John 10:27 (NIV)
It wasn’t fair. I was in a great mood; enjoying my time with a group of ladies who were upbeat and fun. Then, it happened. Without anyone else knowing and with great purpose, she walked over to me, she aimed, and she fired. Her insults and criticisms were delivered, and when she was done, she walked away with her head held high! For the hours that followed, it wasn’t the words of my friends that stuck with me. It wasn’t the words of my loving family that stuck with me. It wasn’t even the words of God that stuck with me. It was her words. Her voice was loud in the crowd! There I was, in the middle of many people who loved me, but I felt very much alone.
It’s tough to be human! We are constantly being bombarded with hundreds of ‘voices.’ Unfortunately, we don’t always allow the most important ones to influence us. These voices ‘speak’ in all kinds of ways: social media, TV shows, movies, tabloids, people (living or dead), oh yes, and our own voice, which can be the worst! All these voices can be loud in the crowd, and drown out the one voice that matters- God’s!
John 10:27 teaches us that when we belong to God we can listen to God’s voice, and follow Him. I think that most of us would say that we are followers of Jesus. But, if we are not careful we can tune into the wrong voice, and follow it. This will get us into a place of fear, anxiety and distress. What is on your mind today? Are you tuned in to what God is saying to you or has something else gotten your attention? God has something to show you right now, and it’s good!
Why not check and make sure that His voice is loud in the crowd!
