“It’s in You” by Roxanne Swann

“It’s in You” by Roxanne Swann

I haven’t always been a person to “seek peace and pursue it”!

I remember when I was pregnant with my third child (now 29 years ago!), I had prayed and asked the Lord to give me peace during my pregnancy. Just peace. Undisturbed peace. Peace for me and peace for my child. I truly believed my feelings and my emotions affected my child.

I wanted to live in peace!

There was a family who attended church with us at the time who were having trouble in their marriage. He would get drunk and the wife was scared that he would possibly hurt her or one of her kids. Trying to be gracious, I had said to her, “You know you’re welcome to come to my house if you ever need to, to be safe.” Well, a few days later, he calls me very angry, upset, and drunk. His wife had let him know I had said my home was open to her.

When I answered the phone and realized what had happened and how out-of-control he was, I was a little scared, too! He says to me, “I know your husband is out-of-town for a few days (and he was!), and I’m coming over there! You’ll be sorry you ever spoke to my wife!”

Thankfully, there was also a police officer who attended church with us. When I got off the phone, I called him immediately and let him know what was going on. He assured me he would drive around on our street and make sure I was ok.

Then, I collapsed in the floor in tears. I said to God, “All I asked for was peace…and this is what I get?”

He so gently and sweetly spoke to my heart, “You have My peace. I gave it to you. My peace passes all your understanding. My peace is not what’s around you, it’s what’s in you.”

Phil 4:7 (NLT)
Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

The Good News Translation says God’s peace is “far beyond human understanding.”

Proverbs 1:33 (TPT)
But the one who always listens to Me
will live undisturbed in a heavenly peace.
Free from fear- confident and courageous,
you will rest unafraid and sheltered from the storms of life.

God’s peace over us is not controlled by circumstances. God’s peace is an inward peace. When we quiet our minds, confusion ceases. We can see clearly. We can think clearly. We’re able to make right decisions. We have an inward peace, knowing that God’s got this!
